This event will bring together Research Technical Professionals (RTPs) from the materials innovation community for a one-day programme of workshops, career talks and networking opportunities.
Commencing with an optional introductory networking event from 16:30 on Thursday 4th September, followed by an evening meal at the Manchester Museum, the main Friday programme will include sessions on a wide array of RTP focussed topics; career talks and panel sessions with RTPs from a diverse range of career paths; and a showcase of the opportunities NTPMI can offer.

As a part of the NTPMI mission we aim to celebrate and empower RTPs within the UK’s materials science community. This event will bring together RTPs from across this group, providing an opportunity to network, foster collaborations and exchange knowledge. Our goal is to enable RTPs to build a stronger community and help celebrate and communicate their achievements with each other.
There will also be workshops providing learning opportunities applicable to RTPs at all stages of their career, as well as a variety of talks from leading RTPs in the community. Attendees will be able to ask questions during Q&A panels and contribute their own ideas for the future direction of NTPMI.
The event is for Research Technical Professionals working in materials science in the UK. Accommodation and travel costs for RTPs from outside of the Greater Manchester area will be covered.
The Henry Royce Institute conference will be taking place at the Nancy Rothwell Building, University of Manchester between 3rd – 4th September and NTPMI conference delegates are also welcome to attend this or any sessions of interest.
After the course participants should be able to:
- Contribute to a network of RTPs within the materials innovation community
- Identify different career pathways available to RTPs
- Have a greater understanding of NTPMI and the opportunities it can offer

RAMS 2019 aims to help recent appointees in academia and industry to expand and consolidate a national collaborative community, share experiences and create a network of support. RAMS2019 will cover a wide range of topics in Materials Science organised by a very diverse ECR materials community within the University of Liverpool: in the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF), the School of Engineering and the School of Physical Sciences.
You are invited to a business breakfast hosted by the Henry Royce Institute and delivered by the UK Circular Plastics Network to find out how the UK can create value from plastic waste, develop and implement new technologies and business models in order to enhance its plastic recovery infrastructure, develop more sustainable businesses, and establish and embed a culture that re-uses and recycles used materials wherever possible.
Join the Royce's latest workshop to learn more about research in the field, and how it is underpinned by infrastructure and accessible equipment based at the National Graphene Institute (NGI) and the Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre (GEIC).
Day 2 will feature a special workshop on Nano Infrared Spectroscopy, led by Dr Aravind Vijayaraghavan and Bruker, manufacturers of the Royce's NanoIR3 system.
This focused workshop, in collaboration with Bruker, provides a hands-on introduction to one of the latest characterisation capabilities for 2D and other advanced materials: Nano Infrared Spectroscopy.
The Bruker NanoIR3 systems couple Atomic Force Microscopy with Infrared Spectroscopy capability, enabling nanoscale resolutions together with topological, thermal and electrical analysis.
