This event will bring together Research Technical Professionals (RTPs) from the materials innovation community for a one-day programme of workshops, career talks and networking opportunities.
Commencing with an optional introductory networking event from 16:30 on Thursday 4th September, followed by an evening meal at the Manchester Museum, the main Friday programme will include sessions on a wide array of RTP focussed topics; career talks and panel sessions with RTPs from a diverse range of career paths; and a showcase of the opportunities NTPMI can offer.

As a part of the NTPMI mission we aim to celebrate and empower RTPs within the UK’s materials science community. This event will bring together RTPs from across this group, providing an opportunity to network, foster collaborations and exchange knowledge. Our goal is to enable RTPs to build a stronger community and help celebrate and communicate their achievements with each other.
There will also be workshops providing learning opportunities applicable to RTPs at all stages of their career, as well as a variety of talks from leading RTPs in the community. Attendees will be able to ask questions during Q&A panels and contribute their own ideas for the future direction of NTPMI.
The event is for Research Technical Professionals working in materials science in the UK. Accommodation and travel costs for RTPs from outside of the Greater Manchester area will be covered.
The Henry Royce Institute conference will be taking place at the Nancy Rothwell Building, University of Manchester between 3rd – 4th September and NTPMI conference delegates are also welcome to attend this or any sessions of interest.
After the course participants should be able to:
- Contribute to a network of RTPs within the materials innovation community
- Identify different career pathways available to RTPs
- Have a greater understanding of NTPMI and the opportunities it can offer

The Henry Royce Institute at the University of Leeds, in collaboration with EPSRC are holding a one-day meeting on Thursday 4th May 2023 to bring together materials researchers who are working in, or passionate about, moving towards an environmentally sustainable digital future.
This meeting aims to engage researchers, RTOs, policy makers and those working in industry within the advanced materials community in an active discussion about a materials focus for a sustainable digital future.

The annual Cheltenham Science Festival by Cheltenham Festivals will take place Tuesday 6 – Sunday 11 June 2023, in Imperial Gardens and various venues around Cheltenham.
The University of Liverpool and Imperial College London, in collaboration with the University of Southampton and University of Cambridge, are developing a bid for an EPSRC AI hub for Digital Chemistry. This online open meeting on the 23rd May at 11am will discuss the outline of the hub, how it might develop an inclusive AI-using community and to shape the hub’s aims.

Hosted by experts, each episode will explore useful presentation, communication, or career skills for researchers which aren’t typically taught as a part of traditional education pathways for materials scientists.
Version control is an essential skill for a modern researcher. It allows you to work with others, develop code faster, and track changes to your own code and even writing. This course is aimed at those who have no or little experience of version control, providing a hands-on introduction to version control using Git.
