Event overview

The Henry Royce Institute at the University of Leeds, in collaboration with EPSRC are holding a one-day meeting on Thursday 4th May 2023 to bring together materials researchers who are working in, or passionate about, moving towards an environmentally sustainable digital future.

This meeting aims to engage researchers, RTOs, policy makers and those working in industry within the advanced materials community in an active discussion about a materials focus for a sustainable digital future.

We are looking to select up to 50 attendees for the meeting, with a diverse range of expertise and experience in materials research and innovation.

The workshops will include an appropriate balance of expertise from different organisations as well as reflecting a diverse mix of individuals and backgrounds.

Agenda

At this meeting there will be a number of focussed talks paired with round-table discussions on: how materials researchers can identify ‘problematic’ materials; how to identify more sustainable substitute materials;  how we can design materials and devices for reuse and recycling; and how to consider the whole life-cycle of a material.

A detailed agenda will be shared with attendees in due course.

We are also inviting attendees to join us for an evening dinner in Leeds on the evening of Wednesday 3rd May to allow for networking and an early start on Thursday 4th May.

Audience

This meeting is open to anyone in materials research with an interest in working towards an environmentally sustainable digital future. This may range across research fields, including: physics, chemistry, engineering, computing, social and economic sciences.

Expression of Interest form closes at 23:59 on Sunday 16th April. Outcomes will be sent by Tuesday 18th April.
