Discover Materials at the ASE Annual Conference 2023
05 January 2024 - 07 January 2024
12:00 am
Europe's largest festival of science education CPD, the ASE Annual Conference (in partnership with AQA), returns to Sheffield Hallam University from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th January 2023.
UK SPM/AFM Users Meeting 2024
16 January 2024 - 17 January 2024
All Day
Bruker invite all researchers using or interested in Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) techniques to join Bruker, The University of Manchester, and an exciting panel of guest speakers to this year's 2024 SPM/AFM Users Meeting.
EASI-STRESS Webinar: Residual stress analysis by the contour method
19 January 2024
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The contour method is a technique for destructively quantifying the residual stress in metallic components stemming from processing inputs. While the requirements for employing this technique are fairly minimal as it often requires only electro discharge machining and metrology facilities, the experimental and analysis aspects are non-trivial. In this presentation, the experimental aspects which need to be considered as well as analytical paradigms will be described.
Royce Training: Practical Cleanroom Skills - Created in partnership by the Universities of Leeds and Cambridge, and Swansea University
22 January 2024 - 26 January 2024
All Day
This Royce Training course will explore basic practices and techniques for cleanroom use. Through a combination of taught lectures, discussion sessions, and practical training participants will gain fundamental skills for working in ‘clean-fab’ cleanrooms. The content will develop theoretical and practical knowledge in processes such as lithography, deposition, and etching; with participants using what they learn to fabricate a micro-scale Field Effect Transistor.
Bragg Exchange 2024
23 January 2024 - 24 January 2024
All Day
The Bragg Exchange 2024 offers a platform for all to learn, connect, and contribute to the future of materials science here at the University of Leeds. Students, academics, researchers - all are welcome to register and get involved!
Stress-free transition metal nitride coatings
25 January 2024
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This seminar from Surface Ventures will cover: The role of metal-ion irradiation in thin film growth, advancements in High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS), Nanostructure control pathways with light and heavy metal ions, low-temperature synthesis of hard; stress-free ceramic coating and the discovery of Guinier-Preston (GP) zone hardening in cubic-TiAlWN.
APPLIED DIFFRACTION REFINEMENT
29 January 2024
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
X-ray powder diffraction is one of the most common in-house characterisation methods, used to provide information on a host of different samples including metals, ceramics, battery materials and pharmaceuticals. This course will explore powder diffraction refinement techniques used to analyse the data obtained.
