National Graphene Institute (NGI)

The National Graphene Institute is a  world-leading centre for applied research in Graphene and other related 2D materials. The Institute acts as a “Hub and Spoke” model with other universities and institutions with over 300 active researchers for 2D materials at Manchester.

The platform provides interdisciplinary research in 2D Materials (Physics, Materials, EEE, MechEng, Aerospace, Chem Eng, Life Sciences) and supporting Centres for Doctoral Training NOWNANO:                                   structured taught program & research projects for an annual intake of ~25 students. The National Graphene Institute has leadership roles in the European Graphene Flagship project involving 142 academic and industry partners.

The NGI is also working on setting national and international partnerships aiming at the standardisation of characterisation and quality assessment of various types of Graphene (CVD, PECVD, ALD, exfoliated powders, inks, Synthesized Graphene, etc.)

An important output of the NGI is accelerating the support to the University of Manchester, GEIC &  Royce facilities to the development of applications and business opportunities through partnerships with industrial companies, the commercialization of intellectual property  (including start-ups), and the provision of highly trained people with scientific and entrepreneurial skills.

The Institute has 1500m2 of industrial standard research cleanrooms and 18 laboratories dedicated to multi-disciplinary research with support collaborative research and engagement space.
