It’s a wrap – MRE 2024

We’re all back at base after Innovate UK’s Materials Research Exchange 2024!

The entire Royce Partnership was delighted to be part of the exhibition, to deliver a great Royce Conference thanks to our brilliant speaker line-up and to mingle with over 2000 delegates at this 10th anniversary of MRE.

The Royce Conference showed how materials science is unlocking potential in key areas from engineering biology, through to plastics sustainability and the development of materials for extreme environments.

Our exhibition stand embraced our newly developing major collaborative programmes  such as DMexCEAMSSMI Hub and Economiser, and Royce CEO Professor David Knowles launched the National Materials Innovation Strategy Interim report  developed thanks to the input of  the materials community and under the leadership of the Materials Innovation Leadership Group (MILG).

Other highlights included:

  • A Conference led by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) covering a series of exciting talks on how their work enables innovation through materials measurement.
  • A workshop about securing sustainable processing and supply chains for materials led by High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres
  • The Global Research and Innovation in Plastics Sustainability Conference, in partnership with IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining) which covered elastomer sustainability and the effects of microparticles on human health and ecosystems.
  • The Reimagining Materials and Manufacturing Showcase, where the REforMM and SusBioMM cohorts where introduced.
  • UKRI’s Transforming Foundation Industries Challenge, delivered by Innovate UK, EPSRC and ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council, which explored the efforts to accelerate the adoption of innovative materials.
  • The Circular Critical Materials Conference where alternative materials for rare earth elements (REEs) were discussed.

Royce is now looking for individuals to join or input to expert working groups for each Opportunity Workstreams set out in the Interim Strategy Report.
