Prof Dame Lynn Gladden tours Royce facilities including new Hub Building

EPSRC Executive Chair visits the Royce in Manchester

On Tuesday 18th February, EPSRC Chief Executive Professor Dame Lynn Gladden visited the Henry Royce Institute as part of an extended visit at The University of Manchester.

Prof Gladden was met by Regius Professor of Materials and Royce Chief Scientist, Philip Withers who introduced Lynn to key members of the Institute’s leadership including CEO Prof David Knowles and Head of Operations Dr Eliza Gardner.

The group then visited key areas of Royce investment on campus at The University of Manchester including the Advanced Materials Characterisation Suite and the new £105m Hub Building which reaches completion later this month.

Professor Withers said:

It was fantastic to show Prof Gladden the Hub of the national institute and explain how the building will act as meeting place for the whole materials community. By bringing together the UK’s academic and industrial materials leaders, the Royce will identify new opportunities, workshop ideas, and develop new strategies and approaches to tomorrow’s materials demands.

Funding for the Royce from the EPSRC has helped to realize a national institute of scientific excellence for materials in the UK. The Institute’s research outputs and engagement with industry aim to solidify the UK position as a world leader for advanced materials research and innovation. Find out more about our impact here
