Technical Skills

Royce delivers a diverse programme of scientific knowledge training courses and technical skills workshops in support of the UK materials science community.

To transform productivity and the pace of materials innovation, we need people with the right skills to deliver it

Working with our Partners, Royce runs training events to increase the awareness of Royce facilities in the scientific community and help researchers access the equipment and support they need.

Through the upskilling of the community, our users are more knowledgeable, better placed to make effective use of Royce equipment, and are more productive in their research.

Much of our technical training programme is structured around our Technology Platforms for cutting-edge characterisation, testing and manufacturing techniques. These courses incorporate successful activities already delivered across the Partners, based around the needs of students and research and technical staff from both academia and industry.

Our programme is also focussed on transformational techniques and methods from machine learning and 3D printing technology through to materials informatics, which have the potential to radically change materials development and manufacturing processes.

Major equipment suppliers such as Bruker and Zeiss with whom we already collaborate, are also key contributors to training sessions and this provides the opportunity to both promote and develop the capabilities of their instruments.
