NTPMI Workshop: Tribology and Metal Forming

Overview

A free one-day, in-person workshop intended for UK forging and forming community. It will be held at GLIDE House Sheffield. Register here.

Research Technical Professionals (RTPs) attending the workshop will learn about a range of tribological technologies developed to improve to metal forming processes. The workshop aims to communicate the benefits of considering tribology in process design and operation, and to learn from delegates whether there is an appetite to expand this area tribological research and development in the UK.

Background and motivation

The day will commence with three or four short presentations to cover fundamentals of tribology and real-world benefits of optimisation. These will be delivered by the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) and commercial providers of lubricants, wear resistant coatings and modelling software.

The second half of the event will be a workshop where discussion between delegates will be encouraged. At the end of the session, there will be an understanding of how important tribological matters are to the UK forming and forging community and the nature of research that is necessary to address them.

Following the event, the AFRC will be happy to visit companies individually to learn more about their needs, process specifics, and how we can help.

Audience

This event is open to RTPs and travel can be subsidised for all attendees.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
