Royce Technical Professional Awards open for nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2024 IOM3 Henry Royce Institute Awards for Innovation by a Technical Professional and Outstanding Contribution by a Technical Professional. The awards, which launched last year, celebrate the contribution of Technical Professionals to the success of materials research and innovation.

The closing date for applications is the 29th February 2024.

This is the second year of the Royce supported awards – with the first recipients celebrating at an awards ceremony in London earlier this month. Both Awards are open to Royce affiliates across Partners, and the wider materials science academic and industrial community around the UK.

The Henry Royce Institute Award for Innovation by a Technical Professional recognises the crucial contribution that technical professionals make in advancing our technology and understanding of the materials world. This Award recognises an outstanding individual who has made a key contribution to a research project that has led to significant innovation in any aspect of materials science and engineering.

The Henry Royce Institute Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Technical Professional recognises the contribution of an established Technical Professional across a number of projects or activities. This Award recognises an individual who has gone beyond the normal expectation of their role and shared best practice across their own and other organisations.

Professor Dave Knowles, Royce CEO said:

“Our technical professional workforce is at the centre of making our extensive facilities across the UK deliver for the research community and I’d particularly like to thank the Technical Committee for their support for this agenda. I attended an inspiring evening at Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining annual award ceremony earlier this month – surrounded by a well-deserved group of winners from the materials community and am looking forward to some inspiring nominations this year.

“I was very proud, along with IOM3 President and Royce SAB Member Dr Kate Thornton, to hand out the inaugural 2023 Henry Royce Institute Technical Professional awards to Andrew Smith and Zabeada Aslam and it felt that this recognition was a long time overdue.”

Nominees should be a non-academic, working within a UK-based materials research organisation, community or company, including national laboratories and universities.

The winners will receive £500 and will be invited to attend the Premier Awards Christmas Dinner on in December 2024 at the IOM3’s 297 Euston Road London headquarters.

These Awards are administered by IOM3 on behalf of the Henry Royce Institute.

Colleagues are encouraged to make their nominations as soon as possible!

The closing date for both Awards is 29th February 2024.
