The Henry Royce Institute (Royce) is delighted to announce that £6.71 million has been awarded in the sixth round of its Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP).
ICP offers grant funding for research and innovation sprint projects, whilst facilitating collaborative partnerships between academic institutions, industry and Research Technology Organisations (RTOs).
ICP6 attracted 213 applications in total, of which Royce were able to fund 72 high-quality projects. These projects are split across six scope areas, reflecting technology translation within the key research themes of the National Materials Innovation Strategy:
- Energy solutions (25 projects)
- Structural Innovations (14 projects)
- Advanced Surface Technologies and Materials Durability (10 projects)
- Future Healthcare (10 projects)
- Next-Generation Electronics, Telecommunications & Sensors (7 projects)
- Consumer Products, Packaging & Specialist Polymers (6 projects)
Cross-cutting themes supported by several projects include sustainability and sustainable-by-design principles into materials innovations, and Materials 4.0 which embraces the digital revolution in materials discovery and scale-up.
These funded projects will support innovation in the advanced materials ecosystem, as well as wider progress across initiatives such as the National Materials Innovation Programme and the Advanced Manufacturing Sector Plan within the UK Government’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
Royce CEO, Prof David Knowles, commented:
The breadth of projects funded through this round demonstrates the pivotal role that materials innovation plays in enabling economic growth, industrial resilience and the transition to a more sustainable future.
ICP unites researchers, industry partners, and innovators throughout the United Kingdom in fast-paced activities. For this round, these collaborative efforts will reinforce national materials capabilities in key strategic areas, while advancing the objectives outlined in the National Materials Innovation Strategy and supporting broader government industrial priorities.
