Royce Hydrogen Accelerator Seeks Expert Mentors to Support UK Hydrogen Innovation

29 April 2026

The Henry Royce Institute is calling on experienced professionals from across industry, investment and innovation to join its Royce Hydrogen Accelerator (RHA) as mentors, helping to shape the future of the UK’s rapidly growing hydrogen economy.

The initiative comes at a critical time for the UK’s transition to net zero, with hydrogen expected to play a central role in decarbonising energy-intensive sectors such as transport, manufacturing and infrastructure. The RHA has been established to bridge the gap between cutting-edge materials research and commercial deployment, unlocking investment and accelerating the scale-up of breakthrough technologies.

Supporting the Next Generation of Hydrogen Innovators

The programme is seeking mentors with experience in building and scaling materials-based businesses, particularly those with expertise in hydrogen technologies or adjacent sectors. Selected mentors will work directly with early-stage technologies identified by the RHA, providing strategic guidance and helping teams progress towards investment readiness and commercial success.

Mentors will be matched with projects aligned to their expertise and will support teams by offering advice on areas such as commercialisation strategy, fundraising, technical roadmapping and market positioning.

A Flexible Role that Will Deliver Real Impact

The role is designed to be flexible, requiring approximately two hours every two weeks per project, with mentoring delivered remotely. Participants will join a pool of experts and be assigned to projects as suitable opportunities arise.

Mentors will be engaged on a consultancy basis and compensated for their time, reflecting the value of their expertise while enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the UK’s innovation ecosystem.

Driving UK leadership in hydrogen

The Royce Hydrogen Accelerator brings together stakeholders from academia, industry, government and investment to address key materials challenges across the hydrogen supply chain.

By supporting high-potential technologies and connecting them with investors and industry partners, the programme aims to position the UK as a global leader in hydrogen innovation and unlock significant economic opportunities.

Who should apply?

The RHA is particularly interested in professionals who:

  • Have experience building or scaling technology ventures
  • Understand innovation and investment ecosystems
  • Bring expertise in commercialising hydrogen or materials technologies
  • Are passionate about supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy

How to get involved

Applications are now open and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV and a short statement outlining their experience and areas of expertise.
