Muhammad Umar has degrees in Textile Engineering, and a PhD in Materials from the University of Manchester. Before joining Royce, he worked as a Materials Scientist and Lab Manager of AEH labs at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC). His experience covers hydrogels, fibre-based and polymer composites, 2D materials (Graphene, MoS2), textile-related technologies (fibre spinning, fibrous/nonwoven wound dressings, membranes), materials characterization techniques, developing sustainable products, materials, formulation of gels for agricultural and biomedical applications, and commercialising lab research. He has been published in several high impact journals, and acts as a mentor/assessor for Leadership in Education Awards Programme (LEAP). He has Fellow status through the Higher Education Academy and endorsed as Global Talent by The Royal Society.
