Dr Merry Gupta

Application Scientist

Dr Merry Gupta is an Application Scientist at the Henry Royce Institute, based at the Dalton Cumbrian Facility within the University of Manchester.

Merry specializes in ion irradiation and radiation effects in materials, particularly nuclear materials, with over a decade of experience in the field. Her work focuses on developing radiation-tolerant ceramic and metallic systems, bridging fundamental studies with applications in nuclear energy.

She has previously worked at Inter-university Accelerator Centre, India, where she utilized advanced accelerator facilities such as 15 UD Pelletron Accelerator, Low Energy Ion beam Facility and 30 kV Tabletop Ion Accelerator. Her expertise spans microstructural evolution and damage mechanisms, explored through advanced characterization techniques including electron microscopy, synchrotron-based studies, and Ion Beam Analysis (RBS) using 1.7 MV NEC Pelletron. A dedicated researcher and mentor, Merry has supervised postgraduate projects, contributed to the beamline development, and delivered award-winning research at national and international forums. Passionate about advancing nuclear materials research, she combines careful experimentation with collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to address challenges in energy, space and radiation environments.
