Professor John Stairmand

Professor John Stairmand is a Nuclear Materials Steering Group member based at Jacobs.

John is the Technical Director for the Technology, Consulting & Innovation businesses of Jacobs. In the first half of his career John was a chemical engineer working initially on nuclear fuel cycle R&D, and then in the pharmaceutical and oil & gas industries. More recently, he led the Materials Science and Structural Integrity business of Jacobs, developing several internationally leading technologies, and overseeing the establishment of the BEIS-funded “High Temperature Facility”.For four separate technologies, John’s research innovations have been developed and implemented commercially.

John has been an active member of the UKRI peer review college for more than 25 years including the EPSRC SAN.  He is a member of the MOD Science and Technology Advisory Group (STAG) and of the DESNZ Nuclear Innovation & Research Advisory Board (NIRAB) and he sits on the governing board of SNETP. He is a visiting Professor at the Dalton Nuclear Institute of Manchester University and at the Nuclear Futures Institute of Bangor University and leads on university interactions by Jacobs.
