Cathy Bell is Research and Business Engagement Manager for the Henry Royce Institute at the University of Manchester.
Cathy oversees research and business engagement for Royce’s Nuclear Materials and Material Systems for Demanding Environments Research Areas, while also supporting the Advanced Metals Processing Research Area based at the Royce Hub.
Cathy brings more than 30 years’ experience in the steel industry, having worked as a Product Development Metallurgist and Technical Department Manager. During her career, she developed extensive expertise in commercial-scale research and development, technical account management, business development, quality assurance, project and portfolio management, and strategic leadership.
As a ferrous metallurgist, Cathy worked closely with manufacturers across several sectors that use engineering steels in their products and applications. Her industrial career also gave her a strong understanding of the commercial and operational ecosystems within which the UK’s foundation industries operate.
