HERO BANNER - ROYCE COLOURS3

Royce seeking both Non-Executive Directors for its Governing Board (GB) and Members for its Strategic Advisory Board (SAB)

The Henry Royce Institute (Royce) is seeking to appoint three new members of its GB, to succeed those whose terms of office are coming to an end later in 2023. Successful applicants will be strategic and creative in their thinking, with a successful senior executive and non-executive track record and a demonstrable interest in Royce’s vision, mission, and strategy. An additional benefit would be experience of interacting with government, academia, and/or the wider R&D communities. The GB meets four times per year (with a total annual time commitment of around eight days), and its members are compensated for their time.

The Royce Governing Board, chaired by Professor Sir Peter Gregson, provides oversight to ensure the Royce delivers significant impact for UK plc aligned with its four mission pillars:

  • Enabling national materials research, collaboration, foresighting and strategy
  • Providing access to world-leading facilities and research expertise
  • Catalysing industrial collaboration and accelerating translation
  • Fostering materials science skills development, innovation training and outreach

Expressions of interest are invited at your earliest convenience, and in any event by no later than the closing date of Friday 17 March 2023 at 5pm.

Royce is also looking to appoint three new members of SAB, to succeed those whose terms of office are coming to an end later in 2023. Successful applicants will be expected to bring national / international standing in an area of materials-related research, interest in the promotion of the field of materials science as a whole, and experience of industry-academia collaborations. Expertise in one of the Royce research areas would be a significant advantage. We are also keen to have representation from early career practitioners in the field, from both industry (in particular the SME community) and academia, who can bring a unique view. SAB meets four times per year (with a total annual time commitment of around eight days), and its members are compensated for their time.

The Strategic Advisory Board, chaired by Professor Mark Smith, provides independent advice to the Governing Board and Leadership Team on realising Royce’s vision, particularly in relation to the operation of Royce facilities and the quality of the institute’s scientific outputs.

Expressions of interest are invited at your earliest convenience, and in any event by no later than the closing date of Friday 31 March 2023.
