New UKRI Film Highlights the Critical Role of Technicians at Royce

Earlier this year, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) came to Royce to film ‘a day in the life’ of senior technician Jen Adcott, and you can now watch the results on UKRI’s YouTube channel!

The film showcases Jen’s work supporting researchers in the Biomaterials lab in the Royce Hub at Manchester – training them, maintaining complex equipment, and helping transform new ideas into reality. From testing the mechanical strength of materials to demonstrating tissue-stretching devices, Jen’s expertise ensures experiments run safely and smoothly.

Reflecting on her journey from biology graduate to technical specialist, Jen shares how her love of hands-on problem solving led her to a career enabling innovation in Biomaterials.

This film shines a light on the often-unsung role of technicians at Royce and beyond, whose skills and dedication are essential to advancing materials research. It is part of UKRI’s “101 Jobs That Change the World” series, which highlights the variety of roles in the scientific research space.
