The Henry Royce Institute (Royce) would like to extend congratulations to the winners of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) Awards 2025.
Each year, Royce the supports two awards that recognise the achievements of technical professionals across the UK materials science community.
The Henry Royce Institute Award for Innovation by a Technical Professional recognises the crucial contribution that technical professionals make in advancing our technology and understanding of the materials world. The judges will be looking for an outstanding individual that has made a key contribution to a research project that has led to significant innovation in any aspect of materials science and engineering.
This year’s award went to Dr Richard Chater, Instrumentation Research Fellow at Imperial College London.
The Henry Royce Institute Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Technical Professional recognises the contribution of an exceptional and established technical professional over an extended period of time (minimum of ten years), across a number of projects or activities. The recipient should be an individual that has gone beyond the normal expectation of their role, shared best practice across their own and other organisations, and supported the development and training of new staff.
This year’s award went to Dr James Douglas, Facility Manager for Atom Probe Tomography & Focused Ion Beam at Imperial College London.
Tom Hancocks, Training & Skills Manager at Royce, said:
“Technical professionals make immense contributions to materials science, in academia, research organisations and in industry. These awards allow us to celebrate technical staff who deliver innovation in materials science and go beyond their role to contribute to their research communities through training and knowledge sharing.”
All of this year’s awards will be presented at the 2025 IOM3 Awards Day on Thursday 4 December in London.
