On 1 March 2024, early career researchers, postdoctoral research associates and PhD students were invited to join industry speakers and research and business engagement personnel for a workshop on “Commercialisation for Materials Scientists”. This event sought to equip participants with knowledge of the commercialisation process and steps needed to successfully progress a new material from research to product.
Royce is committed to equipping the next generation of materials science researchers with the skills required to understand and engage with the commercial process, with this event providing a starting off point for future materials entrepreneurs.
Organised by Royce’s Training team in collaboration with the Research and Business team, the day saw talks from a range of industry stakeholders provide talks and mentorship regarding a range of topics relevant to product development and industry engagement.
Knowledge of commercialisation routes and processes is increasingly important for materials science researchers in the UK. As the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research, this workshop allowed Royce to help researchers learn about the innovation and commercialisation landscape and make them aware of the support available.
The event culminated in a networking opportunity for all involved, in which students were able to ask further questions and make connections with industry insiders.
With the success of this workshop, Royce is looking to replicate the format at other partner universities over the next year. If you missed this one, please look out for further events that may be happening at an institution closer to you.
