British Science Week at the Manchester Museum

19 March 2024

Royce returned to the Manchester Museum to participate in two days of fun and educational outreach activities focusing on material sciences and engineering for British Science Week 2024.

This year, Royce sent visitors hunting around the Museum to find all the Materials Science stands and fill up a Materials Passport, with stickers from Name, University of Manchester and MIDAS areas. Over 500 students and visitors were engaged with the help of volunteers, including PhD and technical staff affiliated with Royce.

Alongside the passport, Royce activities included using a Charpy tester to break chocolate bars, demonstrating fracture mechanics, and hydrogen activities including a prototype car and map.

About British Science Week

British Science Week, run by the British Science Association, is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.

British Science Week provides a platform to stimulate and support teachers, STEM professionals, science communicators and the general public to produce and participate in STEM events and activities.

Anyone can organise an event or activity, and the British Science Association helps organisers plan by providing free activity and support resources. The resulting programme of events is a hugely varied and eclectic mix.
