UKAEA Materials Research Facility (MRF) Webinar – Capabilities Update and Funding Opportunities

Join Royce partner the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) for a webinar exploring the capabilities of its Materials Research Facility (MRF), opportunities for collaboration and forthcoming developments.

Date: Monday 30 November 2026
Time: 15:00–16:00 GMT
Location: Online
Organiser: UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA)

About the event

Understanding how materials respond to demanding environments is essential to developing future nuclear energy technologies. UKAEA’s Materials Research Facility enables researchers to prepare and examine irradiated samples, helping them investigate radiation damage and assess materials’ performance in nuclear reactors.

This webinar will introduce the facilities currently available, highlight funding opportunities to collaborate with the MRF and look ahead to new capabilities coming online in 2027.

Recent developments include two additional hot cells for mechanical testing of larger irradiated samples, alongside progress towards robotic sample handling. Invited speakers will also share examples of recent experimental work undertaken at the facility.

Who should attend?

The event is aimed at researchers working at UK universities or UK businesses who want to learn more about the MRF and opportunities to work with its team.

Programme

  • Capabilities, funding and future plans — Head of MRF, UKAEA (20 minutes)
  • User case study — Materials Division, UKAEA (15 minutes)
  • User case study — University of Birmingham (15 minutes)
  • Questions and answers (10 minutes)

A full agenda will be published by UKAEA during November 2026.
