The Turing Institute x University of Manchester (UoM) Sustainability sandpit is a two-day event scheduled to take place from 14.00 to 16.00 on Weds 17 and Thurs 18 November. Please note that this is one event across two days and participants are expected to attend on both days.

UoM is keen to host a sandpit which brings together a range of academic and non-academic stakeholders to discuss and devise research projects where data science and AI can play a key role in delivering sustainable outcomes. Areas could include (but will not be limited to):

  • Sustainable consumption
  • Sustainable production and manufacturing
  • Sustainable employment
  • Sustainable planning
  • Sustainable transport

Participants will develop proposals over the two days and our review panel will award funding for a number of six-month feasibility studies (~£10-15k per successful proposal).

Participants will have an opportunity suggest potential topics in the build up to the event. This input will be reviewed and sorted before the event and will help to define the starting point for proposal discussions.

Please note that due to the nature of this funding, each funded project must be led by a researcher from The University of Manchester.

Intellectual Property rights will be subject to terms and conditions as agreed between the Alan Turing Institute and The University of Manchester.

This sandpit is an opportunity for researchers, private, public and third sector to come together and devise research proposals for projects on topics related to sustainability and data science and AI.
