The Digital Twins sandpit is a two-day event scheduled to take place from 14.00 to 16.00 on Weds 1 and Thurs 2 December. Please note that this is one event across two days and participants are expected to attend on both days.
Digital Twinning is a method of using real-world data to create a virtual representation to model a range of processes and systems and predict potential outcomes. Applications could be applied to a wide range of settings across environmental, healthcare, planning and transportation domains to name a few.
The focus of this workshop will be around urban and environmental digital twins which are already transforming how cities are being planned, built, and managed, with examples appearing in cities across the world, including Helsinki, Dublin, Singapore, Sydney, Wellington to name a few. We are also seeing the emergence of the environmental digital twin to help better understand the impacts of climate change, model air pollution dispersion and help to understand the human-environment nexus. The wealth of environmental data collected across a range of scales ensures that digital twins will play a pivotal role in solving global challenges including climate change and air quality’.
The Turing Institute and the University of Manchester are organising a workshop for researchers, public, private and third sector participants with interest in digital twins to help identify research challenges and support the development of ideas with a view to fostering research proposals within the cities and environment domain.
Participants will develop proposals over the two days and our review panel will award funding for a number of six-month feasibility studies (~£10-15k per successful proposal).
Please note that due to the nature of this funding, each funded project must be led by a researcher from The University of Manchester.
