Professor Sven Tougaard delivers an online masterclass for the Henry Royce Institute
About this Event

An online masterclass in XPS background modelling by Prof Sven Tougaard, University of Southern Denmark
QUASES-Tougaard enables modelling of the inelastic background (electron energy loss following core level photoemission), where sampling depths up to hundreds of nanometres below the surface is possible, especially when using higher energy X-ray sources, such as the new gallium metal-jet HAXPES-Lab instrument from Scienta Omicron in the Henry Royce Institute.

This has recently been demonstrated in a publication in Applied Surface Science (open access): click here.

Prof Tougaard will deliver a masterclass including:

    • An introduction to the technique, some background theory
    • Examples using XPS, NAP-XPS and HAXPES, both photoelectron and Auger lines.
    • Challenges and technical issues with using the technique
    • A step by step walkthrough in using the QUASES software
    • Opportunity to discuss your own work

A Zoom link will be sent out on 2nd February, the day before the masterclass at 1pm GMT on Weds 3rd February, for everyone that registers.

Ahead of the workshop, please contact Dr Ben Spencer at ben.spencer@manchester.ac.uk for any queries.

Prof Tougaard has also recently published a new guide to using this technique in JVSTA: click here.
