Our Commitment to Sustainable Events

Transport

Where possible, we please ask that you travel to this event sustainably. We have highlighted the nearest public transport options available below:

  • The most sustainable option: walk or cycle if you aren’t travelling far or just fancy the fresh air. CityLabs 1.0 is just off of Oxford Road which is served by a fantastic cycle route and the lovely scenery of The University of Manchester Oxford Road Campus.
  • Bus – the following buses stop at the Royal Infirmary Bus Stop, right outside of CityLabs 1.0: 15, 41 Cross City, 42, 42A, 42B, 42C, 43, 111, 142, 143, 53 Orbits, 147, 18, V1 Vantage, V2 Vantage.
  • Tram – your nearest tram stop is St Peters Square at an approx. 25 min walk. If you have time, soak in that fresh air and walk straight down Oxford Road all the way to find CityLabs 1.0 on your left. The Metrolink service is powered entirely by electricity producted from modern, cleaner, greener energy sources. 62% of a tram’s power comes from energy produced by the wind.
  • Train – Oxford Road and Picaddily Train Stations are the closest to the University. Both stations link up with a variety of the buses mentioned above.
  • If you are needing to travel by car, please consider car sharing with your colleagues. The nearest car park to CityLabs 1.0 is Cecil Street Car Park with 4 accessible bays and 4 electric charging points.

Food Waste and Footprint

Please let us know if you are no longer able to attend the event after having signed up, so that we can ensure our catering numbers are as accurate as possible. This will allow us to minimise the amount of our food waste as possible. Takeaway containers will be available at our events for you to take home any leftover food to avoid any of it going to landfill.

All our event catering is vegetarian and vegan, helping to reduce our environmental footprint.

Please take a look at The University of Manchester’s Sustainable Catering Policy for more information on how we are trying to keep the environmental impact of our catering low.

Reducing Single Use Items

Please remember to return your name badges to the registration desk on departing the event so that these can be reused for future events.

The majority of our signage is reused at future events and any event-specific signage is recycled.

We are always looking for ways to make our events more sustainable. Please send us your comments and suggestions either via our post-event feedback survey or direct to sustainablefutures@manchester.ac.uk.
