International Women’s Day at the Royce Hub Building

OVERVIEW

Join our team at the Royce Hub Building for an inspiring evening celebrating International Women’s Day 2026 and the incredible contributions of women in science, research, and innovation.

From 16:30–19:30, we’ll be showcasing exciting scientific discoveries from researchers here at the Royce Hub within the University of Manchester, alongside a keynote address from Dr Emily Draper (University of Glasgow), a 2025 Philip Leverhulme Prize winner. Emily will share her research journey, career experiences, and insights into building a successful path in STEM.

The event will also feature an interactive panel discussion on Women in Science, giving you the chance to ask honest, practical questions about entering STEM careers, navigating career breaks, finding support as a woman in research, and tackling global challenges such as the gender pay gap and workplace equality.

Following the talks, stay for refreshments, informal networking, and a poster showcase from early-career researchers presenting their work in materials science.

If you would like to submit a question in advance to help ensure it’s included in the discussion, please email outreach@royce.ac.uk.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated worldwide each year on 08 March, recognising women’s achievements while also highlighting the ongoing work needed to achieve gender equality.

IWD is a globally recognised moment to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and scientific contributions of women, reflect on progress made toward equality and represents a major call for action to address barriers that women still face worldwide

Despite significant progress, no country has yet achieved full gender equality, which is why events like this remain vital for raising awareness, sharing experiences, and inspiring future generations.

2026 THEME

The 2026 International Women’s Day campaign theme is “Give to Gain.”  This message emphasises the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.
