How to enhance the functionalities of surfaces using laser-based manufacturing methods

Structured surfaces with features in the micro- and nano-range offer a new level of design freedom for materials, allowing for the modification of desired material properties and thus obtaining enhanced functionalities. High-resolution fabrication techniques are essential for realizing such complex designs.

The ability to process large areas at high throughputs is crucial for implementing these approaches in industrial applications. In this presentation, an overview of different laser patterning technologies is provided, showcasing various processing systems and configurations. The potential for rapidly and precisely tailoring material surface microstructures and topographies on industrially relevant scales is demonstrated. Additionally, several application examples are discussed, as well as metrology methods that has been developed for in-line monitoring.
