Dr Manas Upadhyay will deliver a seminar entitled ‘What happens to a stainless steel microstructure after solidification during metal additive manufacturing and under post-process laser scanning?’ at the Royce Hub Building on Thursday 7th April.

Dr. Uphadhyay will visit to deliver the talk at 2pm in The Royce Hub Building, 1st floor Seminar Room 1.015. Occupancy is limited to 40 people which will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis but it will also be broadcast live via Zoom for those who wish to join remotely.

Manas Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanics of the Ecole Polytechnique (France), with a researcher position in the Solid Mechanics Laboratory (LMS) of Ecole Polytechnique and CNRS also at the Ecole Polytechnique. He obtained his PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) in 2014 and he did his post-doctoral research from 2014 – 2018 at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). His general research interest is in understanding microstructure formation and evolution in metals and alloys under complex thermo-mechanical loadings via an experiment-modeling synergy. His current research interests involve studying microstructure evolution during metal additive manufacturing. He was recently awarded an ERC Starting Grant (# 946959), which has allowed him to build his research team to work on this topic. For his research activities, he has recently been awarded the Jean and André Rist medal by the French Society of Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M), which will be presented in December 2022.
