Irradiation of Materials

Large scale sources of ionising radiations

Description

DCF provides the UK with the experimental infrastructure and technical expertise to allow users to conduct fundamental research in order to develop a mechanistic understanding of the effects of ionising radiations. The facility incorporates large-scale irradiation equipment, including two ion beam accelerators and a high dose rate cobalt-60 gamma irradiator, complemented by a number of high-end instruments supporting a wide range of in-situ and ex-situ analytical techniques.

The facility is part of three national research initiatives, the National Nuclear User Facility, the Henry Royce Institute for advanced materials research and innovation and the EPSRC UK National Ion Beam Centre, and has a well-established user community of over 35 universities and over 35 companies.
