Hydrogen corrosion laboratory

A laboratory suite dedicated to investigate industrially relevant hydrogen corrosion processes

Royce Hub building | University of Manchester

This suite provide a range of capability to investigate the initiation and propagation of corrosion in hydrogen so includes: hydrogen permeation and hydrogen embrittlement systems.

Description

We have the ability to perform accelerated testing in hydrogen. The suite also includes the analytical technique known as thermal desorption (TD), which provides the ability to measure volatile contaminants such as hydrogen adsorbed into metals. This is a useful technique to study hydrogen embrittlement of metals, a pervasive process of significant technological importance.
