Extruder

ThermoElektron - Process 11

Royce Hub building | Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub (SMIHub) | University of Manchester

Blends and homogenises melted plastic pellets through extrusion.

Description

Co-rotating parallel twin screw extruder, with segmented screw design.

Screw speed ranges from 10-1000rpm.

0-100 bar pressure.

RT up to 350°C.

Throughput from 20g/h up to2.5kg/hr.

11mm barrel diameter with 440mm length.

Uses / Applications

Twin Screw Extruders (TSEs) can be used to replicate typical processing conditions used in industry to produce commodity polymers such as HDPE, PET, PP etc. By reproducing these conditions, the polymer stability during processing can be studied to see if degradation occurs. Further the effect of recycling of polymers over repeated service lives can be quantified to better understand the recyclability of polymer systems and therefore tailor additive selection.
