Professor Paul Meredith
Professor of Physics, Swansea University
Paul is a Professor of Materials Physics and Sêr Cymru National Research Chair at Swansea University. He also holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. His research interests lie in the area of sustainable advanced materials for applications such as solar energy, optoelectronics, and bioelectronics. He was educated at Swansea University and Heriot-Watt University and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Cambridge before taking up an industry role as a senior scientist with Proctor & Gamble.
Between 2001 and 2017, Paul was an academic at the University of Queensland and held several positions including Director of the Centre for Organic Photonics and Electronics and Director of UQ Solar. He was also an Australian Research Council Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award Fellow and played an active role in the development of the Queensland State Renewable Energy Target of 50% by 2030. In 2017 he returned to Swansea to establish a research effort in the physics of sustainable advanced materials and that has led to the new Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials which he leads. This £30M initiative will create a state-of-the-art new research fab for semiconductor science and engineering in support of the regional semiconductor industry and is due for completion in 2022. He has published > 240 papers with over 12,000 (H-index 55) and have a strong interest in innovation having established several start-up companies.
