Dr Kate Thornton
- Dr Kate Thornton is Lead Research Scientist at Croda working in their Biopolymer division. In this role she assesses new raw materials and processes to produce sustainable products for a range of industries.
She is also the current President of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) following over 15 years of volunteering in various roles. In this position she is an ambassador for not only the Institute but the huge range of application and research areas this covers. Through this role she sits on both the Executive Board and chairs the Advisory Council overseeing that they are meeting their charitable goals and strategic priorities. She was also one of the founding trustees of their new IOM3 Education and Outreach Charity.
Kate is extremely passionate about promoting Materials, Minerals and Mining to not only students but the wider community. She was one of the organisers of the IOM3’s first Materials Matter Conference and has made focussing on Students and Early Career members one of her key focuses for her Presidency.
