Dr Kate Thornton is the Deputy Chair of the Henry Royce Institute’s Strategic Advisory Board.
Kate is the Chief Executive Officer of ABMEC – representing the British Mining Supply Chain. She previously worked at Croda in their Biopolymer division.
She was the youngest President of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), holding the position between 2023-2024. She is now their Chair of Trustees of the IOM3, as well as being one of the founding trustees of the new IOM3 Education and Outreach Charity.
Kate is extremely passionate about promoting Materials, Minerals and Mining to not only students but the wider community. She was one of the organisers of the IOM3’s first Materials Matter Conference and made Students and Early Career members one of her key focuses for her Presidency. She is continuing to support those in similar career stages in her new role at ABMEC.
