Dr Anneke Lubben is the Head of the Material and Chemical Characterisation Facility (MC2) at the University of Bath. In this role as leader of a Core Facility she oversees the strategic direction and operation of multiple multi-user analytical and characterisation services spanning the techniques of mass spectrometry, NMR, X-Ray diffraction, electron microscopy, elemental analysis, thermal and polymer testing, bioimaging and cell analysis, to characterise materials from the molecular to organism level. Users of these services include a diverse range of University students, researchers and clients from other HEIs and external companies. She has been leading MC2 since 2018 prior to which she led the Chemical Characterisation and Analysis Facility which expanded to include the microscopic and biological techniques to become MC2.

In addition to the strategic leadership of these Core Facilities, Dr Lubben remains actively involved in applied research involving mass spectrometric techniques, and collaborates widely with researchers and industrial partners working on the characterisation of a range of physical, chemical and biological materials. She is also actively involved in Technician’s Commitment activities at Bath, the development of people, particularly regarding the promotion of Research Technical Professionals, and equipment sharing agendas locally, regionally and nationally.

Dr Lubben holds a number of external executive roles including membership of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for Capital Research Infrastructure, membership of the EPSRC High Level Advisory Group for National Research Facilities, and chair of the GW4 Technical Infrastructure and Knowledge Working Group.
