Claire Spooner is the Head of Advanced Materials at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). This role encompasses leading the EPSRC’s materials research domain and working with the materials communities across academia, industry, government and other key stakeholders to develop new, novel and transformational research areas. She works on a suite of programmes including working with the Henry Royce Institute and ISCF Transforming Foundation Industries.
Claire has held previous roles at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) including Deputy Team Head for Economic Performance and Environment Team and Theme Lead for Transport and Infrastructure. She led ESRCs Climate Change Priority activity, developing and commissioning work on the Research Councils Environment and Energy remit, focussed on social science and interdisciplinary activities. She has also worked at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). These roles have helped inform her interdisciplinary approach to scoping and commissioning research.
