As Business Development Manager for Advanced Metals, Dr Luke Benson Marshall’s career has always had a strong focus on the industrial applications of advanced materials research. One of the key outputs of his PhD research was the development of a low cost, low material demand testing method for the machinability of titanium alloys.
After earning his PhD, Luke continued working with industry to develop new processes using academic research methods; for two years, he was sponsored by a major auto manufacturer to develop new materials and new materials manufacturing methods.
Taking a brief break from academia, Luke spent two years as a project manager and technical contact for a metal extraction innovation company, ensuring that the technical deliverables of a project were understood and met.
Luke’s career in research and industry highlighted the importance of effective communication and innovation. It has equipped him with the skills to seek out challenges and work to solve them with partners.
