Electron Microscopy Workshop

Is your business facing a materials challenge?

In partnership with the Henry Royce Institute, the David Cockayne Centre for Electron Microscopy Facilities at the University of Oxford is running a technical workshop, featuring flash presentations and confidential, 1:1 consultations.

The David Cockayne Centre provides training and is open for investigative and collaborative research using our state of the art facilities. Our technical specialists and expert research staff want to work with industry to solve your problems, selecting the most appropriate tools and deriving valuable insights from advanced techniques.

Opportunities in Microscopy
  • Discover how the support offered by the Royce opens up equipment and facilities access to SMEs.
  • Understand how materials can be prepared to produce accurate cut-out and cross-sections with minimal material damage, using analytical focussed ion-beam equipment.
  • Discover how the ultimate sample preparation tool, the Nanomill, can help in the study of materials for batteries.
  • Examine the mechanical properties across interfaces for soft materials.
  • Discuss applications of lithium, graphite and silico-carbons, as well as materials for fission and for fusion power.
  • Image the structure of polymers and light elements such as lithium using the 4D canvas.
Outline

We will start the morning with succinct presentations, outlining the range of industry applications that can be addressed using these analytical and characterisation tools. Small group tours of the facilities will then lead onto confidential, one-to-one sessions with support scientists and experts with relevant electron microscopy tools. We can work with you to understand your application and develop a plan for detailed investigation, as well as confirming support available for SMEs.

There will be a chance for informal networking during the refreshment breaks.
