National Nuclear User Facility latest access call

The National Nuclear User Facility (NNUF) invites user access applications for the period July – September 2021 with “remote” access options available during COVID restrictions.

The fourth quarterly “call for access” for NNUF facilities is now open. This is an opportunity for any UK-based university researcher, and their international collaborators, to apply to use NNUF facilities for free. The closing date is 31^st May 2021, and the call covers access taking place primarily during July – September 2021.

Facilities accepting user applications:

New for this round:

• The Molten Salts in Nuclear Technology Laboratory at the University of Manchester
• The Pyrochemical Research Laboratory at the University of Edinburgh
• The RADER (RADioactive waste management and Environmental Remediation) Facility at The University of Manchester

Existing Facilities:

• The Active Nano Mapping Facility at the University of Bristol
• ADRIANA (Advanced Digital Radiometric Instrumentation for Applied Nuclear Activities) at Lancaster, Liverpool and CCFE
• The University of Manchester Dalton Cumbrian Facility
• The EXACT Facility at the University of Southampton
• The HADES Facility at the University of Sheffield
• The MC40 Cyclotron Facility at the University of Birmingham
• The High Temperature Facility hosted by Jacobs Engineering Group
• The Hot Robotics Facility (a partnership between UKAEA’s RACE Facility, University of Bristol, NNL and DCF) – access period at NNL’s Hot Robotics Facility runs July – December 2021 to allow time for security clearance if required
• UKAEA’s Materials Research Facility
• The National Nuclear Laboratory (electron optics capability) – access period runs July – December 2021 to allow time for security clearance if required
• The Nuclear Materials Atom Probe (NuMAP) Facility at the University of Oxford
• Lancaster University’s UTGARD Laboratory

Visit the NNUF website and get in touch with the relevant facility contact to make an application. Given the current national COVID restrictions, many of the facilities accepting applications for this call are able to facilitate “remote” access, with facility scientists conducting experiments on behalf of externals.
