NTPMI Workshop: ISIS High Pressure Gases Workshop

Overview

Free, in-person workshop taking place at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, Didcot. This one-day workshop aims to provide lectures and presentations covering high pressure and toxic gases safety, design, operations and maintenance of high pressure and gas handling equipment as well as tours of high pressure and gas handling workshops at the ISIS Facility and tours of the ISIS facility.

Hands-on practical demos:

  • Gas fittings
  • Leak testing
  • Proof testing (using a high-pressure bunker)
  • Working safely with hazardous gases.

RTPs attending the workshop will learn about a wide range of techniques and technologies applicable to high pressure gas handling, as well as how best to share knowledge across the biomaterials RTP community.

Background and motivation

High pressure gases are used in laboratories all over the UK. There is a need that lab workers are able to safely handle these gases and are fully aware of the hazards involved and how to integrate high pressure gases with a variety of different pieces of lab equipment. Troubleshooting techniques are also extremely important and this workshop will aim to give hands-on experience with leak tests, fittings and proof-testing.

Audience

Aimed at: Technicians and early career staff working in technical environments, supporting high pressure research and research involving the use of hazardous gases.  Workshop will take place in a radiation-controlled area

This event is open to RTPs and travel can be subsidised for all attendees.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Note – valid photo ID is required for access to the site.

Learning outcomes

After the course participants should be able to:

  • Discuss current working methods and best practice for handling high pressure gases and related equipment.
  • Contribute to a network of RTPs in the UK for the advancement of high pressure gas best practice.
