Overview
The Henry Royce Institute is convening a UK stakeholder workshop to explore how the UK materials community can strengthen its engagement with emerging European materials innovation programmes, including IAM-I/IAM4EU, EU FP10, and the wider 2028–2034 European innovation framework.
This hybrid workshop will focus on the Construction and Mobility themes of IAM-I’s Working Groups, including opportunities linked to structural, functional and energy materials. It will bring together representatives from industry, academia, research and innovation organisations, and government to consider how the UK can best contribute to, influence and benefit from future European materials priorities.
At this stage of European strategic planning, industry perspectives are particularly important. Future priorities must reflect not only scientific excellence, but also the realities of application, scale-up, manufacturing, supply chains and commercialisation. This workshop is therefore designed to capture views from companies and organisations working across the materials innovation landscape, ensuring that UK strengths and industry needs are clearly represented in future discussions.
The session will provide an overview of current UK–EU collaboration mechanisms through IAM-I/IAM4EU, before moving into facilitated discussion on how the UK can coordinate its input across the Construction and Mobility themes.
Why attend?
This workshop will provide an opportunity to:
- Understand the evolving IAM-I/IAM4EU landscape, including working groups, task forces and links to future European programmes.
- Explore how UK organisations can engage with emerging European materials innovation opportunities.
- Share industry perspectives on priority challenges, market needs and areas where materials innovation can support future competitiveness.
- Identify UK strengths in construction, mobility and related materials sectors.
- Help inform a coordinated UK position that can support future engagement with European materials initiatives and FP10.
Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed at organisations with an interest in future UK–European collaboration in materials innovation, particularly those working across:
- Construction materials, infrastructure and the built environment.
- Mobility, transport, lightweighting and advanced manufacturing.
- Structural, functional and energy materials.
- Materials scale-up, testing, validation and deployment.
- Innovation programmes, supply chains and industrial partnerships.
We are particularly keen to hear from industry representatives whose expertise can help shape practical, commercially relevant priorities for future UK engagement.
Format
The workshop will be highly interactive and will include facilitated discussion sessions designed to capture views from across the UK materials community.
Confirmed contributions will include representatives from:
- The Henry Royce Institute leadership team.
- Eva Schillinger, Secretary General, IAM-I.
- The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
Outputs from the discussion will help inform future UK engagement with European materials initiatives and broader conversations around UK participation in FP10.
