Description
The Gleeble 3800C is equipped with two Mobile Conversion Units (MCUs), enabling a broad range of high-precision testing scenarios: Continuous casting, Hot rolling, Forging, Extrusion, Weld HAZ cycles, Upset butt welding, Diffusion bonding, Continuous strip annealing, Heat treating, Quenching and Sintering.
Rapid Heating & Cooling
Samples can be heated at rates up to 10,000 °C/s via direct resistance heating, with temperature control accurate to ±1 °C. Post-heating, cooling can occur naturally or through forced quenching using an integrated system with gas (argon, nitrogen, or compressed air) or water.
Pocket Jaw MCU
– Supports tensile and compression testing up to 100 kN
– Accommodates up to four thermocouples for real-time thermal profiling
– Flexible gripping setups support a wide variety of sample geometries
– Test speeds range from 0.001 mm/s to 2000 mm/s, with adjustable data acquisition rates
– Low-force jaw configuration available for lower maximum load tension tests
Hydrawedge MCU
– Enables multi-hit, high-strain-rate simulations such as forging or rolling
– Supports cylindrical samples for flow stress analysis
– Compatible with plane-strain compression via interchangeable anvil setups
Software & Control
Both MCUs are operated using the Gleeble Touch Control (GTC) system and QuickSim2 software. This interface provides flexible programmable control modes, detailed data logging, and real-time process monitoring, allowing for highly customisable simulation of industrial processes.
