Be Part of the Next Wave of Advanced Materials Entrepreneurship: Royce Catalyst Opens Applications for its Next Cohorts

20 February 2026

The Henry Royce Institute has opened applications for the next cohorts of its national entrepreneurship education programme, Royce Catalyst. The programme equips researchers and innovators from all backgrounds to work on breakthrough advanced materials technologies and understand how to translate cutting-edge research into commercial opportunity.

Royce Catalyst brings together learners, inventors and supervisors to work on live materials-based projects, exploring the commercial feasibility of emerging technologies while developing entrepreneurial mindsets and practical business skills. A significant number of full programme-fee scholarships are available to ensure broad access.

Delivered in partnership with Alliance Manchester Business School, the programme provides a structured, supportive national platform to explore commercial feasibility, routes to market, and long-term impact.

Learners, inventors and supervisors can now apply to join the next two cohorts of the programme.

Dr Rebecca Myers, Enterprise Manager at the Henry Royce Institute, said:

Through Royce Catalyst, we are delivering a national learning platform that equips researchers and innovators from all disciplines to work on advanced materials technologies, alongside inventors developing early-stage materials-based commercial feasibility projects. Our participants gain crucial insight into the UK’s commercialisation landscape, develop an entrepreneurial mindset, access experienced mentors and peer networks, and gain a clear understanding of potential routes from lab to market.

GAIN UNIQUE INSIGHT INTO COMMERCIALISATION & EARLY-STAGE DEVELOPMENT

Participants gain first-hand exposure to the UK’s advanced materials innovation ecosystem. The programme features:

  • Pitch nights and launch events hosted in Manchester
  • Teaching from leading experts across advanced materials innovation, intellectual property, sustainability, market research and early-stage investment
  • Insights from entrepreneurs who have successfully commercialised advanced materials technologies
  • Dedicated 1-to-1 mentoring during the programme’s distance-learning elements

THREE-STREAMS. ONE POWERFUL ECOSYSTEM

Royce Catalyst is now accepting applications for Cohorts 2 and 3 across three distinct streams:

LEARNERS
Researchers and professionals from all disciplines who want to understand how to test ideas, assess commercial feasibility and build entrepreneurial capability through working on materials-based projects.

INVENTORS
Innovators developing early-stage advanced materials technologies who are ready to evaluate market potential, commercial pathways and next steps.

SUPERVISORS
Experienced leaders guiding interdisciplinary teams as they apply entrepreneurial tools and commercialisation frameworks to real-world materials challenges.

Together with Alliance Manchester Business School, Royce Catalyst is building a powerful ecosystem: real materials-based projects, independent commercial insight, and a new wave of entrepreneurial talent to strengthen the UK’s advanced materials innovation pipeline.
