Dr Susanne Norgren is a member of the Henry Royce Institute’s Strategic Advisory Board.
Susanne is an internationally recognised expert in materials design and industrial innovation. As Director of the Sandvik Scientific Council, she reports directly to the CEO and leads strategic research initiatives aligned with Sandvik’s global strategy, with a mission to drive impact across industry, society, and academia.
She holds a Lise Meitner adjunct professorship in industrial production at Lund University and is a Docent at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Dr Norgren chaired the Mining and Materials division of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, 2022-2024, and is currently Chair of the European Powder Metallurgy Institutes. She is also an elected member of AcademiaNet, powered by the Swiss foundation for outstanding female researchers.
Her research spans materials design, machining, surface integrity, mining, rock drilling, sintering, and tribology of hardmetals and diamond materials, as well as titanium alloy development and powder metallurgy. She has published over 80 scientific articles and holds more than 400 patents in 50 families. She previously served as adjunct professor at Uppsala University, 2011-2020, where she led the strategic initiative on additive manufacturing and launched an international master’s programme in the field.
Dr Norgren is a two-time recipient of the Wilhelm Haglund Medal (2011, 2023) and was awarded the Professor Wallquist Bergsmedalj in 2023.
