Royce Training: From polymers to biomaterials

Overview

This course will introduce facilities and equipment in support of the material and mechanical evaluation of polymers and other biomaterials. It will include overviews of equipment from TA Instruments and explore the techniques used to collect and characterise biomaterial data. Case studies will showcase research conducted with the kit and highlight areas of capability within Royce’s facilities. Participants will be able to view equipment and gain basic demonstrations of it in action, as well as learn how to use TRIOS software to conduct analysis of their own data.

Experts and technical specialists from TA Instruments and Royce will be able to discuss possible applications and future experimental use of the equipment. Participants will also be able to share their own technical approaches, exchange tips and tricks for method optimisation, and gain analysis.

Attending this course will cost £40.

Audience

This event is suitable for industry partners and academic researchers interested in material and mechanical evaluation for polymers to biomaterials. Participants at all levels of expertise are welcome; whether encountering these techniques for the first time, sharing their own knowledge and use of these techniques, or contributing to discussions around how they can be optimised or applied in novel ways.

Learning outcomes

Following this course participants should be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals for polymer analysis and mechanical evaluation of biomaterials
  • Identify most appropriate equipment required for their research
  • Demonstrate routes for accessing mechanical test instruments at Royce for use in their research
  • Conduct analysis of example test data from TA instruments using TRIOS software
  • Engage with the community to find help, share best practice, and troubleshoot experimental work
