The Henry Royce Institute is hosting a 2-day PhD Research Sandpit training event offering doctoral students the chance to experience the “Research Sandpit” format, and work in teams to come up with new ideas for addressing Grand Challenges in Materials Science.

Delegates will be doctoral candidates from across the UK materials science community, bringing together a broad range of skills in order to create fresh perspectives.

Specific challenges will be unveiled at the event to encourage genuinely innovative thought.

To apply, please complete the application form  and send to david.stanley@royce.ac.uk

Why Attend?
  • 2-day event in Manchester City Centre
  • Students will be set a Grand Challenge in Materials Science
  • Work in teams to develop innovative solutions
  • Proposals judged by an expert panel

The experience is a realistic reflection of the sandpit format that research councils use to design and fund large-scale proposals, in which experienced academics are carefully selected and brought together in an intensive proposal-creating environment.

This is a great opportunity to meet and work with students from the materials science community on a genuinely challenging problem.
