The UK FIB & Prep User Group serves as an open platform for users of FIB systems and all microscopy-related specimen preparation techniques The group provides a platform for members to share advancements, discuss best practices, present both experimental and theoretical findings, exchange tips for preparing challenging materials, analyse complex 2D and 3D datasets, and stay updated on the latest developments in instrumentation and techniques.

The Bragg Centre for Materials Research are excited to announce that registration is now open for the Bragg Exchange 2025, the University of Leeds’ flagship Materials Research Symposium.

This training course will explore basic practices and techniques for cleanroom use. Through a combination of taught lectures, discussion sessions, and practical training participants will gain fundamental skills for working in cleanrooms.

This workshop will engage participants in designing and developing outreach activities focused on atomic force microscopes (AFMs). It aims to inspire new materials science communicators, diversify existing outreach in the field, and help audiences explore materials science.
The content will include presentations by leaders in outreach and experts in materials characterization. Participants will be challenged to build AFMs for outreach use and develop supporting activities to convey scientific techniques and knowledge to diverse audiences.

Rising Stars is returning to the Henry Royce Institute in January 2025. Developed and delivered by early career researchers to celebrate and support the rising stars within under-represented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

This workshop aims to bring together the local XPS user community to learn how to begin analysing XPS data.

In this session, Dr Matthew Allinson, an associate editor at Nature Reviews Clean Technology, will talk about how to publish articles with journals in the Nature Portfolio, with a focus on engineering and sustainability research.

The Materials and Manufacturing Showcase will showcase the impact of £1.75 billion investment in materials and manufacturing, offering exclusive access to groundbreaking innovations and high-growth investment opportunities.

This course will provide an introduction to advanced electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique in alloy imaging and characterisation. It will also provide an overview of the state-of-the-art facilities hosted by Royce at The University of Manchester, and other kit located with Royce partners. Routes to accessing Royce EBSD facilities will also be highlighted.

This course focuses on extrusion-based bioprinting techniques relevant to healthcare research, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). Participants will explore the fundamentals of the technology and hear from experts on the opportunities and challenges of translating 3D bioprinting into real-life medical applications.
