EASI-STRESS Webinar: Residual stress analysis by the contour method
19
January

19 January 2024
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The contour method is a technique for destructively quantifying the residual stress in metallic components stemming from processing inputs. While the requirements for employing this technique are fairly minimal as it often requires only electro discharge machining and metrology facilities, the experimental and analysis aspects are non-trivial. In this presentation, the experimental aspects which need to be considered as well as analytical paradigms will be described.

Stand Out Skills: "PhD to Industry: The Critical Role of Project Management Skills"
03 October 2024
10:00 am - 11:00 am
This Stand Out Skills webinar delves into the obstacles faced when transitioning from academia to industry, highlighting how project management skills are vital for to making this transition as smooth as possible. Dr. Valentina Guerra will explore in her talk how these skills help organise research into actionable industry projects, enhance team collaboration, and boost employability.
Royce Training: From polymers to biomaterials
14 October 2024 - 15 October 2024
All Day
This course will introduce facilities and equipment in support of the material and mechanical evaluation of polymers and other biomaterials. It will include overviews of equipment from TA Instruments and explore the techniques used to collect and characterise biomaterial data. Case studies will showcase research conducted with the kit and highlight areas of capability within Royce’s facilities. Participants will be able to view equipment and gain basic demonstrations of it in action, as well as learn how to use TRIOS software to conduct analysis of their own data.
Royce Training: Spectroscopy in Sustainability Research
17 October 2024
All Day
This course will provide an introduction to the use of spectroscopy in research into sustainable materials and plastics recycling. The content will explore currently available equipment, commonly used techniques, and practical approaches for use. It will cover the capabilities of Horiba’s spectroscopy instruments and how to best design experiments that answer key research and business questions. Research case studies will demonstrate recent examples of successful spectroscopy use in the identification and characterisation of materials. The course will also explore routes through which students, researchers, industry scientists and small businesses can access relevant equipment through Royce Access Schemes.
Royce Industrial Showcase | Applications of Hard X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy
23 October 2024
All Day
The Henry Royce Institute at the University of Manchester is hosting a full-day HAXPES showcase aimed at boosting industry engagement. Part of the institute’s mission is to provide access to the latest facilities and capability to UK companies, thereby catalysing industrial collaboration and exploitation of materials research.
