Dr Martin Burgess
Industry Liaison Officer | Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub
Martin is one of two Industry Liaison Officer’s for Royce’s Sustainable Materials Innovation Institute. After a first degree in Engineering Martin qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in business for many years, firstly in two FTSE 100 companies, then as Finance Director of five businesses before setting up an Internet-based CCTV business in the early days of broadband. He is an experienced manager with a problem-solving focus and a record of change management.
More recently Martin obtained a PhD in Behaviour Change, specifically around domestic energy use, following this by joining the University of Manchester to work on the ‘One Bin to Rule Them All’ project suggesting, with multiple industrial partners, the systemic changes necessary to dramatically improve household plastic recycling levels. This has led him directly to working with companies to improve their plastics practices through the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub.
